Dr Maurice Johannes
For the last 18 years Maurice Johannes has been in the forefront of cosmetic dentistry in the UK. He has fitted over 20,000 veneers, probably more than anyone else in the UK.

His experience is unrivalled, and his work has featured many times on National TV, Sky TV, on radio and in numerous glossy magazines, Marie Claire, Red, Vogue, to name a few.

He was one of the first UK members of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the internationally recognised authority dedicated to the advancement of cosmetic dentistry.
Dr Maurice Johannes qualified from Guys hospital in 1988 and he is the principal and founder of The Harley Street Smile Clinic. He was one of the original pioneers and innovators bringing cosmetic dentistry to the UK. He developed ‘The Original Cosmetic Smile Studio’, the principle which has since been followed and copied by other dentists as a basis to providing cosmetic dentistry in the UK.
He has also been involved in training dentists in the art of beautiful smiles. Maurice Johannes has created amazing smiles for many stars and models from all aspects of the entertainment industry.

Designing and creating your smile
At The Harley Street Smile Clinic we specialise in transforming your smile using the latest technology in cosmetic dentistry today.  Most people have a good idea of what they don’t like about their own smile, whether it be crooked teeth, gaps, missing teeth, old crowns or just discolouration.  At your initial cosmetic dentistry consultation you can discuss these concerns with cosmetic dentist Dr Maurice Johannes.  This will be an informal chat to establish your requirements and find out exactly what you are unhappy with.

Once he has then assessed your teeth he will discuss thoroughly the different treatment options available; exactly what is involved in the treatments; the advantages and disadvantages, if any.  He will provide you with timing, costing and sequence of treatments.  He will also take a digital photograph and using the latest computer imaging software manipulate the image to give you your very own bespoke smile simulation, so you can see how the proposed treatment can look!

You will now be on the first step to creating your new smile. 

Your digital smile design is then transferred into a 3 dimensional smile simulation by our expert dental technicians.  This gives you another more detailed opportunity to assess your new smile.

Your teeth will then be precisely prepared and shaped to exact measures, and your provisional temporary teeth will be fitted immediately.  This “trial run” will allow you to assess as to whether you would like any changes, and ask the opinion of your friends and family.

And finally the “trial smile” is made into the highest quality porcelain veneers.  The final veneers are handcrafted by our master technicians and will have the shape, detail and texture of natural teeth, to your desired colour.

Your Individual Treatment Plan
Provision of 10 upper veneers to bring the teeth into alignment and at the same time improve their shape and colour. The treatment is usually carried out over 3 appointments 14 days apart. Between appointments temporaries will be fitted which are shaped in the form of the final restorations. This is the structural preview.

This treatment plan is valid for six months. Veneers crowns and bridgework are guaranteed for 5 years but not against accidental damage or that due to neglect. It is essential that six monthly visits to the hygienist and dentist be maintained to ensure the longevity of the restorations. We request a 24 hour notice for any appointment cancellations otherwise we regret a charge will be made.

Smile Design Rules
Below are a few of the most important rules we use to design your perfect smile:

1. Horizontal Alignment
Ideally the teeth should be aligned to the horizontal or eye-line.

2. Symmetry
Symmetry around the centre line of your face is ideal.  This is of great importance in producing a great smile.  However it cannot always be achieved, but every effort will be made to give the illusion of symmetry.

3. Smile Line
The smile line joins the tips of your teeth. It should mimic the curve of your lower lip; this gives a more youthful appearance. If the line is flat, this gives a more aged appearance. Women tend to have a more curved smile line than men.

4. Gum Line
An even gum line should ideally follow the line of the upper lip.

5. Embrasures
These are the curved corners at the tips of the teeth.  These are there to give definition to each individual tooth.

6. Golden tooth proportions
Each tooth should be of certain proportions to give the best length : width ratios.

7. Width
A normal width smile allows you to see the progression of the teeth from the front to back.  If your smile is narrow the teeth towards the back of your mouth cannot be seen.

You will find that fees vary enormously from clinic to clinic; as does the quality and appearance of the cosmetic dentistry performed. Clients often have an idea of what they think they might need to correct their teeth, but so many factors need to be taken into consideration before a realistic price can be determined. We believe our prices are extremely competitive especially when you consider the level experience Dr Johannes has in the field of cosmetic dentistry.

Finance
We are delighted to be able to offer our clients the benefit of 0% finance* over a 6 or 10 month period. For those looking to finance their treatments over a longer period, we can offer 9.9% finance* over a 2 - 5 year period.

*Subject to status. The criteria you need to meet to qualify for finance is that you need to be in full time employment for at least a year, have a permanent address history in the UK for the past 2 years, and you must be over 18.

Lisa’s Story

Like any imperfection, it effects the person concerned in a way no one else can understand. Mine just happened to be my teeth, the first thing a person looks at when you first meet them, to me it was an enormous effect on my personality. I made a promise at a young age that no matter what I would have the perfect smile.
My two front teeth started to overlap at the age of 14, first with a chip on the front right tooth which eventually overlapped in my 20’s so much so my top lip stuck out as though I had bucked teeth, the only blessing was the colour, always having brilliant white teeth. I was eventually put in touch with a local dentist who said he could correct my teeth with veneers, which after years of crooked teeth I was overjoyed. I have to add I had no experience of veneers or cosmetic dentistry at this point and maybe should have researched into the procedure before but the prospect of a new smile was all I thought about. The procedure was simple, he put 2 new veneers on top on my 2 front teeth and one at the side, what he didn’t do was file my orginal teeth in order for my teeth to sit in line with the rest of my jawline. Now I had 2 even bigger front teeth in size and width which were more prominent than before, I was so disappointed with the result.

My personality was effected as my confidence was low, I was now smiling with my mouth closed, if a photo was taken I knew I had to angle my face as not to show my teeth. Everyone I meet or watched on TV, the first thing I looked at was always their teeth. I was now in a long term relationship with my now husband and when he aked me to marry him, I always remember thinking, I will not walk down the aisle unless I can smile into the camera on my wedding day, I wanted to be relaxed and enjoy the day without having to be concerned about the angle of my face, worried all I would see in the photo’s would be how terrible my teeth looked. I never wanted the Hollywood Simon Cowell smile, I wanted my teeth to look natural, I wanted them to match and compliment my face.

I started to research into cosmetic dentistry when I was introduced to Jill Haldane by a mutual friend, Jill worked at a top London cosmetic dentistry practice. I made an appointment for the following week and arrived with excitement along with trepidation after my last experience, I was soon put at ease by the environment and the knowledge I was given at that first consultation, nothing was going to happen without my approval and I would be informed throughout the procedure. An image of my teeth was taken and the image of my teeth was scaled down to show me how my teeth would look at the end, it was decided I needed 8 top veneers and gum contouring to allow my teeth to once again look natural, nothing was required to my bottom set and the colour would be matched to my bottom set. I was ecstatic at the image staring back at me. I arranged my appointment and felt completely confident with the treatment I was going to receive.

The following appointment was for the preparation for the temporary veneers and once again the treatment and information received was superb, I was totally at ease with Maurice who was carrying out the procedure. My temporary veneers were amazing and if they had said to me these were the final veneers, I would have been happy. Maurice and Jill had both mentioned if I did not like the colour, size or shape of the temporaries then they would make changes where necessary. I loved them! I came back the next morning, and after 90 minutes of treatment again with no discomfort, my new veneers were fitted and I was able to see the end result. They were even better than the temporaries, colour, size, fit and Maurice had made them a little smaller than the temporaries, now they looked even more natural and complimented my face beyond my wildest dreams. I never stop smiling and everyone I meet is shocked they are veneers and not my natural teeth, I tell them with pride - and a smile!

Porcelain Veneers

Veneers are ultrafine facings of porcelain, hand crafted by our master dental technician, to cover the front surfaces of teeth. Veneers, once only available to the film stars and celebrities are now widely available to anyone. Veneers are expected to last 15 years, and will resist staining and discolouration.

Chipped & Worn
Teeth that have lost their shape or length due to wear and tear can easily be restored using porcelain veneers.

Crooked & Uneven
Teeth that are overcrowded or uneven in shape and size can easily be restored and aligned using porcelain veneers.

Discoloured
Even the most severely discoloured teeth can have their brightness restored using porcelain veneers.

Gaps
Whether you have tiny gaps or a large central gap in your teeth, the gaps can be closed easily whilst still keeping your teeth in the correct proportions, using porcelain veneers.

Lumineers
Lumineers require no preparation of the tooth enamel to improve the smile. In cases where the teeth are overcrowded or protruding this method would be unsuitable, and veneers would be advisable to get the best results.

Narrow Smiles
If you do not show many teeth when you smile, porcelain veneers are the most suitable treatment to widen your smile and reveal more of your teeth.

Old Veneers
When old veneers have reached the end of their lifespan they may appear to be dull and unnattractive. Replacing them for new, more realistic porcelain veneers is the ideal solution.

Gummy Smiles
A low gum line or uneven gum levels can easily be corrected with a simple and painless gum lift that will transform even the most ‘gummy’ of smiles. There are several procedures available to remove excess gum from simple gum sculpting by laser, with little or no healing time; and for those with a lot of gum showing a more in depth procedure is necessary.

Old Crowns
Porcelain Crowns & Bridges
Porcelain crowns are used to rebuild and reconstruct heavily filled or broken teeth. Unlike veneers, they encapsulate the whole tooth. The porcelains used are the same as in veneers so not only do they enhance tooth strength but because they are pure porcelain give excellent cosmetic results. Porcelain bridges are a series or crowns “joined” together to replace missing teeth, using the finest ceramic materials. Bridges are supported by crowns either side of the missing teeth.
