Gum Sculpting for Gummy Smiles
A low gum line or uneven gum levels can easily be corrected with a simple and painless gum lift that will transform even the most 'gummy' of smiles. There are several procedures available to remove excess gum from simple gum sculpting by laser, with little or no healing time, and for those with a lot of gum showing a more in depth procedure is necessary.
We use gum contouring to remove excess gum to improve the look
of uneven gum lines or gummy smiles. With this type of treatment it
really does depend on how much excess gum is showing as to which
treatment would be most suitable for you. If you are looking to just
take away a millimetre or so of gum then the gum reshaping treatment is
quick and easy and takes a matter of hours to heal. Any more than
approximately two millimetres of gum would require a different treatment
altogether - a surgical gum lift, and the healing time is much longer -
usually three to four months.
Gum sculpting is usually done in conjunction with veneers, as the gum is
likely to just grow back down without them. What can sometimes happen is
that when the gum is taken away the tooth underneath is also likely to
be a bit more yellow in colour than the rest of your teeth too, so you
need to be aware of that.
If a client requires our simple gum sculpting it would be charged at £85
per tooth. If the surgical gum lift is required the cost will be around
£1000-£2000, and veneers would definitely be required in this case as
the teeth will be more unsightly after removing so much gum.
There is also a new revolutionary way of hiding excess gum. We can use
Botox to prevent the lip rising up as much, so that you don't show as
much gum. It's a quick and easy affordable way to hide a gummy smile,
with no down time at all. The cost is £250.
